If you install it in the kitchen you need more high-powered unit. A model that is too large will cool room quickly but will not be able to deliver air from humidity. A one that is too small will work overtime wasting energy and your money. The ability of a conditioner to cool an area is measured in BTU/hour. The higher the BTU, the more cooling power the unit has.
2. Maintenance. Choosing a window air conditioner make sure it has a removable filter which can be changed easily. A dirty filter will not be able to clear air effectively.
3. Energy efficiency. Efficiency is measured by the EER (energy efficiency rating). Models with the higher the EER use less energy. You may check the EER on the yellow energy label attached to all new units.
It is advantageous to buy air conditioners during the fall or winter, when it is easy.
