How to eliminate troubles with your air conditioning or air conditioner unit
Air conditioner doesn’t cool
A central air conditioner, which operates, but doesn’t chill, may only require to be cleared. It is better to do that on a considerably tepid day.
First of all you should find your owner’s instruction manual and pursue the recommendations.
1. Prior to starting, switch off the electricity to the unit; as a rule, there is a shut off pane on the wall of the house near the outside compressor. If not, cut off the air conditioner’s 240- volt circuit at the central electrical pane.
2. Take leaves and waste away from the outside condenser.
3. Take any protective grate or wrap from the fins of the condenser.
4. Take an elastic brush to clear filth and waste from the fins, and then vacuum them using a brush add-on (be watchful not to curve or spoil them).
5. Unbolt and lift the top grate off the unit, if feasible. In case the ventilator is attached to the grate, be watchful not to draw any wires loose.
6. Hose out the fins from interior of the unit (secure the wiring and engine with plastic). Lubricate the engine, if required, but don’t over-lubricate.
7. Then pull together the unit again.
8. In order to check it, switch the power on and fix the thermostat to switch the unit on.
Allow it to operate for several minutes and touch two lines, which link to the condenser unit (place any insulation back.) One tube should be warm, the other chill. If not, consult an air conditioning expert.
Air conditioner doesn’t turn on
If the central air conditioner doesn’t run automatically:
- Make certain the thermostat is fixed to “cool” and put lower than room temperature.
- A central air conditioner must be on 240-volt circuit; inspect the central electrical pane and all minor circuit panes for a shut off breaker or blown fuse.
- Make certain the furnace power switch is switched on and that outside condenser’s power switch, installed on the outward unit, hasn’t been cut off. In addition, make certain the 240-volt disconnect near the compressor (in a metal container, typically installed on the house wall) hasn’t been cut off.
- Switch off the electricity to the air conditioner and test the thermostat.
- Take away the cover of the thermostat and unbolt the wire from the Y terminal.
- Switch the electricity back on.
- Gripping the wire by its insulation only, put the exposed end to the R terminal and grip it there for nearly 2 minutes. In case the compressor kicks on, the thermostat is defective; change it or consult an air conditioning expert. In case the compressor doesn’t operate when you grip two wires jointly, switch the electricity back off and call an air conditioning expert.
