 All domestic split-system have an infra-red remote console with a liquid crystal display and about 10 standard features.
Cooling and Heating. It is the main mode of operation of an air conditioner, which is used for conditioning and heading an apartment.
Ventilation. Only a ventilator of an inside unit operates without switching on a compressor. This mode is used for the air even distribution in the apartment.
Automatic mode. The air conditioner chooses the necessary operation mode (Cooling, Heating or Ventilation) to maintain a comfortable temperature
Drying. The air conditioner reduces humidity. Cooling and Drying is almost the similar processes. The only difference is the Drying mode low the temperature by 1 °Ñ. But none air conditioner can to humidify the air.
Air purification. For this purpose, one or several filters are installed before in front of a heat exchanger of the inside unit. The basic filter is designed to remove large dust. Additional filters remove small dust, smoke and pollen. The life time of such air filters ranges from 6 months to 2 years. After that you must buy a new one. But for the air purification purpose, air purifiers are more effective.
Temperature Setting mode. The wishful temperature in Cooling and Heating modes can be set in the range from 16 to 30 °C within 1°C. Usually a temperature sensor is installed in an inside unit, but some models have an additional sensor, built in the remote console. In that case a customer chooses himself where to measure the temperature.
Ventilator’s speed. An outside unit’s ventilator can revolve with different speed, changing the air speed and volume. Usually the ventilator has 3-5 fixed rates and automatic mode. In the automatic mode the ventilator speed depends on the chosen temperature.
Airflow direction. The airflow direction can be regulated in vertical with the help of horizontal plates, which have 5-7 fixed positions. In cooling mode the airflow is directed along the ceiling. An in Heating mode, the airflow is directed down. Besides, plates can roll up-down for the air even distribution. Some models also have vertical plates to regulate the airflow in horizontal direction.
Timer On/Off. The automatic on/off time can be determined with the help of 24-hours timer.
Night mode. After turning on this mode, the air conditioner set minimal the ventilator’s speed (to low the noise) and smoothly increase (in Cooling mode) or low (in Heating mode) the temperature by 2-3 °C in a few hours. It is considered that such temperature conditions are optimal to sleep. The air conditioner is turned off after 7 hours sine turning on this mode.
Practically all domestic split-systems have listed above modes. Most of advertised innovations are just a combination or slight improvement of standard functions. Certainly, there are also new functions in principle. As for example, people presence’s sensor can save energy if the people are absent in apartment. Or an opportunity to control air conditioner’s operation via the internet. But you can decide yourself how useful these innovations are.
